Reiki Hand Positions for Treating a Client / 霊気

14) BACK OF HEAD:  This position offers another chance for mental and emotional healing.

15) SHOULDERS:  Place hands gently on the shoulders in such a way that offers relief.

This position is good for the back of the lungs, nervousness, and spinal problems.

16) MIDDLE/LOWER BACK:  Make sure to cover the adrenals and kidneys.

These hand positions treat physical shock, trauma, surgery, allergies, asthma, hypoglycemia, low energy and fear.

17) BACKSIDE: Place one hand over the tailbone, and the other hand OFF the body, forming a “T.”

18) LEGS:  By placing one hand at the top of the leg (just below the buttock) and the other hand on the back of the knee, creates a conduit of energy.  Next, switch hands and place one hand on the back of the knee, and the other, on the ankle.  Repeat on both legs.

19) FEET:  With both hands, on the back of the ankle and on the side of the foot, give Reiki to each foot.  End the treatment by putting the palms on the back of the feet to ground the receiver.

Closing

CLOSING 1:  Place the dominant hand on the sacrum and the other hand on the crown.

CLOSING 2:  Then bring the non-dominant hand to the top of the neck.

CLOSING 3:  Bring both hands together at the sacrum.

CLOSING 4: Zip up the spine in a light “butterfly-wings” movement.

CLOSING 5:  Brush off the shoulders three times.  This cuts the energy flow, ending the treatment for this session.

Before Beginning a Reiki Treatment:

Both the practitioner and client should remove watches and all jewelry.

The receiver should remove his/her shoes, belts and loosen tight clothing.

The practitioner should cleanse the area with the First Symbol and charge the room with positive energy.

The practitioner should relax and center him/herself before starting the treatment.

The practitioner must wash his/her hands in cold running water before and after the treatment.

The receiver should keep his/her legs uncrossed.

The practitioner should clear the space before the client arrives, and create a meditative atmosphere conducive to healing.

Give the treatment in silence; no chit-chat or talking in order to allow the client to relax completely.

Cover the client with a light blanket, like a beach towel or sarong.

Always remind yourself before and afterward that you are being used as a channel for healing energy.

Afterward, smooth the client’s aura three times and draw an energy line from the coccyx up over the head.

Allow the recipient to come back to the present slowly after the treatment; allow the person to rest for as long as they need to before getting up.

-Adapted from “The Power of Reiki:  An Ancient Hands-on Healing Technique,” by Tanmaya Honervogt (New York:  Henry Holt & Co., 1998)

Upon finishing, gently let your receiver know that you have finished the treatment.  It is important to allow the client to slowly come back, giving him/her several minutes to reacclimatize him/herself to the room and surroundings.

Often people doze off during a treatment, being in an extreme state of relaxation.  It is important that the person integrates the energy received slowly.  Offer the client a glass of water after you wash your hands (to cut the energy flow).
